The Meno Lounge Share & Prepare for Menopause. Bringing women together on their Menopausal Journey
'What is The Meno Lounge and how has it come about?
I always knew when I launched my business that I wanted at some point to form a women’s gathering. I had looked into a few ideas along the lines of Red Tent Circles & meditation groups for example. But, although I found them to be incredibly insightful and empowering, I knew they were not the path I wanted to go down. I then launched my Menopause Management Plan through reflexology and Indian Head Massage. Client’s began coming through the door and confiding that they either did not understand what was really happening to them, or they had no one to talk to about their journey up to and during menopause. They found that friends and family did not understand and quite often they felt isolated. It started to become apparent that despite the menopause being “out there” on social media, documentaries, books, on-line chat groups and work places having to acknowledge menopause, in reality, on a day to day basis, on a personal level, still we are not feeling supported enough or have the knowledge to take us through the transition.
And so The Meno Lounge was born. It has taken me a while to jump out of my comfort zone with it. I started my own menopause journey some 6 years ago when peri-menopause turned up at my door. Huge anxiety was my main symptom at first. Mood swings began and all time lows hit & brain fog, oh the brain fog! I lost confidence in a job that had served me well for over 30 years and was on a downward spiral of despair. I am still in peri-menopause and it has been one hell of ride so far! But for the last 2 years I have been delving deeper into the effects of menopause, I’ve read the books, I have attended menopause workshops, I have taken a course on menopause and, most importantly, I have looked inside my own soul to try and figure out “where do I go now? Who am I now?” Because I am not the woman I once was and this is scary, this is hugely unnerving, where the hell did my vra vra vroom go? I am still not there yet. I still have menopause in itself to come, which will possibly bring me a whole new set of symptoms to knock me off balance. The difference now though, is I am not scared anymore. I loved the woman I was but I am loving the woman I am becoming too. And this is how I want to help you through that transition and bring you together in the hope of creating a wonderful support network of women on a personal level ..... in reality, not faceless people on-line or the TV and in magazines.
So, having bounced the idea about with some some wonderful people, I finally decided it was time to take the leap and get this gathering going.
So my vision: It is simple really. Women come and gather to talk all things menopausal. Share their experiences, give out tips, things that have worked for them. HRT they may have tried and tested. This is not a strictly formal gathering. You won’t have to stand up in front of everyone and tell your story! It is extremely common to develop anxiety and lose confidence approaching and during menopause. I would never put you in such a scary position! The gathering is for you to come along to a relaxed group of women and feel nurtured and supported and be held safely in the knowledge that you are not alone on this journey. That you are with real life women on the menopause path. Maybe you will find a “meno buddy” :-). Have you been part of menopause Facebook groups? These are full of wonderful resources and certainly have their place in our lives, but do you feel overwhelmed or almost lost in the size of the groups? How many are now worldwide with thousands of members! My gatherings are real. This is where reality is. On your doorstep. Right here for you to tap into. To look into another women’s eyes and feel relief, get that hug, or arm around the shoulder, to give you the comfort you are seeking & not to feel alone, but that IT’S GOING TO BE OK.
Over the course of various gatherings, we will have speakers in on nutrition, exercise, meditation, craft classes,,, the list goes on!
